not quite wordless wednesday...

There are many things in life that I just do not spend too much time thinking about...

Among those things is where vegetables come from.

because don't they all just come from the produce section at Kroger?

One of the vegetables I have NEVER thought about the growth process is {or is it are?}brussel sprouts.

Which is strange because we love them...

and by we I mean Michaela and I...

Steve tolerates them...

and Emma.....
well we all know how Emma feels about them!

Yet, as many times as I have cooked them the question, "How do brussel sprouts grow?" has never once been asked!??!

While we were at the tree farm picking out our Christmas tree, I was enthralled by this 'thing' I saw in the family garden--no NOT the tree I was supposed to be searching for!

I am sure the farm owners were looking out the window wondering what the crazy lady was looking at in their dead garden patch!

As I got closer I realized it was a brussel sprout stalk??? tree???
and of course I had to take a picture...

because who doesn't want a picture of brussel sprouts in a stranger's garden:)

they grow on stalks...

they can be grown in Kentucky!

who knew:)

5 minute for mom

  1. I like brussel sprouts with A LOT of butter and salt, and only in moderation. They're like little cabbages aren't they?!

My WW is here. Drop by if you get a chance.

  2. We live in an area where they are grown and all the produce stands and farmer sell them on the stalk. My daughter grew some a couple of years ago. The are a very interesting plant. Happy NY & WW

  3. Emma's face says it all about how I feel about brussel sprouts! oh YUCK! Thanx for sharing how they grow...I had no idea! Awesome capture!

Hoping you and your family have a wonderful 2010.

  4. Loved the face! Pictures say a thousand words don't they?! My son has had that same look when it comes to eating vegetables! Loved it!

  5. Fascinating. I am a sprout lover. LOVE-er. I had no idea they grew on stalks like that.

  6. Didn't know that! My Emma LOVES brussel sprouts! She is the only one in this family that does. She also loves asparagus, spinach, beets..
